Are you a perfectionist? Is that why your book’s not done yet? I can tell you, perfectionism is a sin. It is one of my seven deadly sins to getting our book done, and it is sin number six. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard this saying, but it’s one I have to frequently repeat to myself, done is better than perfect.
I know, it strikes fear in the hearts of many, but you know what? You will never ever have a perfect book. There will always be something that can be tweaked or changed or modified in some way. You want to be careful that your perfectionism isn’t getting in the way of your publishing.
Are you going back through too many times? Are you taking too long to edit? Are you having those edits go to multiple people and getting their feedback? Then trying to figure out how to incorporate that all in? Be very cautious with perfectionism. There comes a point when you have to say, “It’s done, and I’m at peace with it.” Trust me, your book in your hands will feel like perfection.
I’m Belinda Goodrich in Goodrich Publishing, and I’m here to help you get your book done. The world needs your message. Let’s get writing, and remember, sometimes done is better than perfect.
